Saw that phrase on a T-shirt once, and turns out it's no gimmick, but the truth. We just did a demo on the existing deck at the home in the photos. The previous deck builder attached the deck he constructed to the joists of the house, which is fine, but what isn't alright, is how he left things with the home. Instead of precisely cutting thru the brick veneer for only the space he needed, he took out too much, attached the deck ledger board, then left gaping holes around the house joists. With no flashing installed as well, water was free to run in through the holes, underneath the home. Luckily for this homeowner, this is an addition that was built, so no runoff or leaking into a basement, or any other feeder room underneath this home. The entire space under the door was left just as you see in the photo.....wide open....nothing put back or installed whatsoever. So for us to build a new deck, and pass the final inspection from the building department, we had to correct these mistakes......labor and time we didn't account for, as well as the homeowner. This is a prime example of why skilled labor isn't cheap. We didn't take advantage of this situation, nor do we ever, but it did have to be fixed properly in order to proceed. After discussing it with the homeowner, and working out a mutual agreement on the price of the additional work, we are now ready to build the deck. Keep checking back for the completed project, or give us a call for a free estimate!
