Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but so is fall. In fact, it's my favorite. I could live with pumpkins on my porch, pumpkin pie, a chill in the air, orange and yellow leaves all year round if I could. Alot of folks think it's time to cover the grill, turn the patio furniture over, and let the leaves pile up on the deck. Staaaaaahhhhp thinking like that! Get out there and keep those leaves, and other debris off your deck or you're going to ruin your deck boards. Clean it up, dress it up and enjoy the beautiful autumn outside on your deck. Below are some ideas to help you:
Hang some curtains! It will cut some of the wind, and it's a beautiful, elegant look. No curtain/drapery designer needed. Just use some painter's drop cloths, conduit pipe and snap on curtain rings.
Come on baby light my fire........pit. Nothing makes you think of fall more than a nice toasty fire going. There's all kinds of firepit options available from low end to the high end.....simple and rustic, to over the top modern designs.
My opinion is still out on deck heaters only because I've yet to find the "pretty" heaters. There's propane, gas, and electric options out there, mostly with an industrial, functional look. If anyone has found a different design, please enlighten me :)
Put some upholstery out there! Big comfy cushions and pillows. So many water resistant fabric options that you don't have to settle for large flowers or palm tree prints any longer.
Get some cozy throw blankets to hand out to your guests.
A hot drink bar - self serve. You can use anything.....table, small transportable kitchen island, tea cart, purchase or build a small bar. The rest is up to you. Trust me, it will be a hit. I know I would keep visiting you.
If you don't have enough deck room, or the hot drink bar isn't for you, then just simply serve hot drinks. People love good hospitality, and people like to feel needed, so recruit a helper. I would help serve all night for unlimited cups of coffee....there's others like me out there :)
