Finally have this deck and dock completed. This project was definitely a challenge, and one where the learning curve made a new appreciation come for the folks whom build these docks every day. Still not entirely sure what the lake bed floor is....silt it isn't, seemed more like a limestone bed, which made it very hard to break through and get those wood marine piers set. We ended up purchasing a piece of equipment called the RHINO PD200 from the Tri-Plex Group, which is an air powered post driver, that did a phenomenal job of driving those wood piers directly into the lake bed. The marine, chemically treated wood piers came from Building Products Plus/Pole & Timber Company. We used Southern Yellow Pine #1 for the framing, decking, steps and bench, courtesy of our salesman, Rick Wedding at McCabe Lumber. If you're interested in renting the RHINO PD200 for a project, just give us a call at the phone numbers listed here on our website
Check back with us next week as we begin a Brazillian Tigerwood deck project. Another first for us. We've built with Ipe' and Massaranduba, but never Tigerwood. Another beautiful wood from the rain forest, and our supplier does source it correctly and responsibly. You can also give us a call for a free estimate regarding your deck project, and we would be happy to discuss your plans with you.
